The John Edward Plank farm page has now been updated with all known Plank farm Confederate burials. The vast majority of these were moved after the war either to the hometowns of the families or to Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond or to another major cemetery in the South. Most of those listed on the page have Find-a-Grave links, so that family and researchers can dig further.

In addition to those who are listed, it’s possible, if not likely, that dozens of others were originally buried there, then moved after the war. For example, the 4th Alabama suffered nearly 30 combat deaths in fighting on and around Little Round Top. Of those, four are listed in various burial registers as being interred on the Plank farm, one is listed on the Adam Butt farm, one is listed as “on the field,” and most of the rest have no known burial place. These could well be anywhere from one of the Bushman farms to the Plank farm or places in between. Various other regiments show similar patterns.

In the course of time, I may be able to update the farm burial listings with possible locations based on where fighting occurred and where information placed the person before his disappearance.
